in the first case the apricots have less water content thus the apricot cells take up the water and buldge in size . here the water acts as hypotonic solution. but in second case the apricot is consist of more water than sugar solution .now the apricot shrinks and water increases outside . this process is called osmosis movement of water high to low concentration region . the sugar solution acts as hypertonic solution
