Due to a bad weather,
an AIR INDIA flight from Chennai to Indonesia was scheduled to travel 10km/hr slower than the regular uniform speed and the journey time would be 11hrs. But the weather was so unpredictable that the pilot even slowed down the flight by 55km/hr from the regular speed and the journey became 12 hrs and 48 min. Calculate the distance between these cities and also the regular speed of the flight.

Let the regular speed of the flight be x kmph
Now given that,
D = (x-10)(11)...... (1)
and also,
D = (x-55)(12.80)......(2)
Now, expanding equation (1)
D = 11x - 110
Expand equation (2)
D = 12.8x - 704
Equate these two equations,
11x - 110 = 12.8x - 704
704 - 110 = 12.8x - 11x
594 = 1.8 x
=> x = 330 kmph
Thus the regular speed of the flight is 330kmph
Substitute x in equation (1),
D = 11(330) - 110
D = 3520 km
Thus the distance between the cities is 3520km
Now given that,
D = (x-10)(11)...... (1)
and also,
D = (x-55)(12.80)......(2)
Now, expanding equation (1)
D = 11x - 110
Expand equation (2)

Equate these two equations,

704 - 110 = 12.8x - 11x
594 = 1.8 x
=> x = 330 kmph
Thus the regular speed of the flight is 330kmph
Substitute x in equation (1),
D = 11(330) - 110
D = 3520 km
Thus the distance between the cities is 3520km
