(a)Normally, the metabolism of glucose takes place in the presence of oxygen to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) due to which lactic acid builds up causing tiredness. (B) He was told to join the practice again after rest because lactic acid accumulation causes exhaustion.

  • ATP is necessary for the contraction of muscles.
  • However, during intense exercise, when the body cannot meet the demand for oxygen, the metabolism of glucose takes place without oxygen, leading to the formation and buildup of lactic acid.
  • After a period of fast running, lactic acid builds up in the muscles, causing exhaustion.
  • The body can recharge, store energy, and repair damaged tissue during resting.
  • If the body is not given enough time to recover and replenish itself after strenuous activity, it will continue to deteriorate and the condition may even become worse if taken too much rest.
