Due to some problem Amit left 30 minutes late than his scheduled time .In order to reach the destination 150km away in time , he had to increase the speed by 15km/hr from the usual speed . Find his usual speed .

Let his usual speed be x

so if he left on time (in hrs), the time taken by him to reach the destination = 150/x (usual time)

speed =  \frac{distance}{time}

so,

time =  \frac{distance}{time}

now as he left 30 min late (=30/60 hrs or 0.5 hr),

he has to increase the speed by 15 km/hr, so the time taken by him to reach the destination = (usual time)-0.5 hrs

= (150/x)-0.5

Now as speed become x+15

therfore applying the formula

(x+15) = 150/((150/x)-0.5)

Now is this the equation in one variable, you can easily solve it
