Solution :-

Let us assume that, Nikolas buy total 100 items .

so,

→ He buys from Save-More = 20% = (20 * 100)/100 = 20 items .

and,

→ He buys from Value-Barn = 80% = (80 * 100)/100 = 80 items .

now,

→ Mean cost of the items Nikolas bought at Save-More was = $4.50.

so,

→ Total cost of the items Nikolas bought at Save-More was = 20 * 4.50 = $90.00

and,

→ Mean cost of the items Nikolas bought at Value-Barn was = $2.50.

so,

→ Total cost of the items Nikolas bought at Value-Barn was = 80 * 2.50 = $200.00

then,

→ Total cost of 100 items = 200 + 90 = $290 .

therefore,

→ The average cost of all the items Nikolas bought on his shopping trip = Total cost of 100 items / total items = 290/100 = $2.90 (Ans.)
