During hydrolysis of butyl chloride, one
mole of butyl chloride reacts with water to
give one mole of butanol and hydrochloric
acid. If we start with 0.1 M butyl chloride
solution, after 50 seconds, concentration of
butyl chloride is found to be 0.0905 M.
What will be the rate of reaction?​

Given :

Initial concentration of butyl chloride = 0.1 M

Final concentration of butyl chloride = 0.0905 M

Time = 50 seconds

To find :

The rate of the reaction .

Solution :

Rate of reaction = (initial concentration of reactant - final concentration of reactant  ) / time

=> rate of reaction = ( 0.1 - 0.0905 ) / 50

=> rate of reaction = 1.9 * 10 ^ (-4) M / sec

The rate of the reaction is  1.9 * 10 ^ (-4) M / sec .
