  • HCl is Hydrochloric Acid, so blue litmus will turn red.

=> The moisture is needed to allow the acid and the litmus dye molecule to come into contact so that the chemical reaction which changes the color can occur.

=> HCL in contact with red litmus paper would produce no color change.
