- Brandt, in 1649, observed a glowing white substance in human urine and termed it as Phosphorous but the discovery was a secret until 1680 when Robert Boyle rediscovered Phosphorous and it got published.
- He defined an element as "a substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance by a chemical reaction."
