Answer:

The phrase "manifest destiny" is most often associated with the territorial expansion of the United States from 1812 to 1860. This era, from the end of the War of 1812 to the beginning of the American Civil War, has been called the "age of manifest destiny".

By the early 1820s, several Latin American nations  had won their independence from Portugal/Spain, with the US govt. recognising the new republics of Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru in the year 1822.

Nevertheless, both the US and Britain were worried that the powers of continental European interests would seek to revive colonial regimes in the region in the future.

The Monroe Doctrine was a policy which opposed European colonialism in the Latin American nations. The doctrine proclaimed that the Old World and the New World would remain clearly separate spheres of influence (a spatial region/concept division over which a state/organisation has a level of economic, cultural, political, or military exclusivity).

By the end of the 19th century, Monroe Doctrine was perceived  as a defining moment in the US foreign policy and one of its longest-standing doctrines
