During the medical check-up of 35 students of a class, their weights were recorded as follows:
Weight(in Kg) Number of students
Less than 38 0
Less than 40 3
Less than 42 5
Less than 44 9
Less than 46 14
Less than 48 28
Less than 50 32
Less than 52 35
Draw a less than type ogive for the given data. Hence, obtain the median weight from the graph and verify the result by using the formula.

Median = 46.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Wt in kg       : Less than 38   40  42  44  46  48  50  52

No.of students :           0    3   5   9   14  28  32  35

To draw the less than ogive, plot a graph for weight in kg taken along x-axis and number of students taken along the y axis. Please find attached the graph.

Sum of f = 35

N = 35

n/2 = 17.5

Draw a line parallel to x-axis at y = 17.5. The point of intersection of this line on the ogive will be at 46.5, which is the median.

Median = 46.5

Median = l +(n/2 -cf) / f * h

      = 46 + (17.5 - 14)/14 * 2

      = 46 + (3.5/14 * 7)

      = 46.5
