First phone in pure metal is made and wood and thin strip of pure metal is made cathode ionization of metal salt is used as electrolyte.

During electrolysis on passing current through electrolyte the pure metals from anode dissolved in electrolyte.

an equivalent amount of pure metals from electrolyte is deposited on cathode. the soluble impurities go into solution whereas insoluble impurities settle down at bottom of anode and Is known as anode mud..

Hope it helps
