During the RCB vs CSK match, while batting Virat kohli edges a ball vertically

with a velocity of 30ms-1. Dhoni standing behind the stumps runs to catch it. If

he is standing 3 m behind the stumps and runs at 0.5ms-1 will he be able to catch

the ball? (g=10ms-2)​

Given :

Velocity of ball = 30m/s

Distance covered by Dhoni = 3m

Velocity of Dhoni = 0.5 m/s

To Find :

Will Dhoni be able to catch tha ball or not?

Solution :

  • From equations of motions , S = ut + (1/2)at²
  • Applying this equation to ball

           0 = 30t - 5t²

           5t (t-6) = 0

           t = 6sec

  • By applying the equatin to dhoni

          3 = 0.5×t

          t = 6sec

  • As the time periods in both the cases are equal he will catch the ball

Dhoni will be able to cath the ball
