Dwayne's garden is triangle-shaped with two equal sides and a third side that is 4 ft more than the length of an equal side. If the perimeter is 49 ft, how long is each side? Which equation represents this? 2x = 49 2x + 4 = 49 3x = 49 3x + 4 = 49

Given that the Two sides of triangles are equal in length.

Let the length of each of the two equal sides is = x

Also given that the third side is 4 ft more than the length of an equal side.

So length of the Third Side = x + 4

Perimeter = 49 ft (Given)

We know that

Perimeter = Sum of the lengths of all sides

  49          = x + x  + x + 4

  49           = 3x + 4

Rearranging , we have

3x + 4 = 49

3x = 49 - 4

3x = 45

x  = 45 / 3

x = 15 ft

So the right equation is 3x + 4 = 49

Length of each of the equal sides = 15 ft

Length of the Third side = 15 + 4 = 19 ft
