Answer:

  • The percentage increases in the surface area of cube = 96%

Given :

  • Each edge of the cube is increased by 40%

To Find :

  • The percentage increases in the surface area of cube = ?

Step-by-step explanation:

Let l be the length of edge of cube.

Given, edgw6is increased by 40%

•°• new edge (l) = l + (l×40)/100

= l/1 + l ×40 / 100

= 5l + 2l / 5

i. e, (l_1) = 7l/5

Now, original surface are = 6l²cm²

And, surface area after increment = 6l²

= 6 × (7l/5)² cm²

= 6 × 49l²/25 cm²

= (294/25) l² cm²

Increased surface area = ( 294/25) l² cm² - 6l²/1

= (294/25) l² cm² - 150 l²

= 144 l² / 25

% increased in surface are,

= (increased surface area / original surface area) × 100

= (144l²/25) × 100 / 6l²

= (144l²/154l²) × 100

= 96 %

Thus,

The percentage increases in the surface area of cube = 96%
