each living cell has its own life span. If we talk about unicellular organisms they divide to maintain their nucleocytoplasmic ratio for the normal functioning of cell. These organisms are considered as IMMORTAL as there is no natural death. Because when a cell grows it divides into two equal daughter individuals.
