Solution:

Each side of flower bed:

⇒ 2 m 80 cm
⇒ 2.80 m
⇒ 2.8 m

Finding Area:

⇒ l²
⇒ 2.8²
⇒ 2.8 × 2.8
⇒ 7.84 m²

Hence, Area of flower bed before extension is 7.84 m².

If it is extended by digging a strip of 30 cm wide all around it, then the new side will be = 2.8 + 1.0 ⇒ 3.8 m

Area of the flower bed after extension:

⇒ 3.8 × 3.8
⇒ 14.44 m²

So, Area of enlarged flower bed is 14.44 m²

Increase in the area of flower bed:

⇒ 14.44 - 7.84
⇒ 6.6 m²

Hence,

The area of the enlarged flower bed is 14.44 m².

And,

Increase in the area of the flower bed is 6.6 m².
