Each side of a square flower bed is 2 metre 80 cm long it is extended by digging a strip 30 cm wide all around it find the area of the enlarged flower bed and also the increase in the area of the flower bed

Area of enlarged flower bed = 9.61 meter²

Increased Area = 1.77 meter²

Side of square flower bed = 2 meter 80 cm

1 meter = 100 cm

⇒ 2 meter 80 cm = 200 + 80 = 280 cm

Area of square = side²

⇒ Area of flower bed = 280²

                                    = 78400 cm²

                                    = 7.84 m²

Length of flower bed after extension = 280 cm + 30 cm

                                                              = 310 cm

Area of enlarged flower bed = 310²

                                                = 96100 cm²

                                               = 9.61 meter²

Increased Area = 9.61 - 7.84

                          = 1.77 meter²
