As the units are different, we need to convert them into a single unit,

Thus, 3 m 50 cm = 3 + 0.5 = 3.5 m. [ 100 cm = 1m ]

Now,

l = 4 m

b = 3 m 50 cm = 3.5 m

Area of the room = length(l) × breadth (b)

= 4 × 3.5

= 14 m2

  • Therefore, 14 sq m. of carpet is needed to cover the floor of the room.
