Early humans used rocks as tools to make other things as well as to construct buildings. Why was it better for them to use rocks than another material such as wood?

rock are harder than wood and can absord shocks without any sign of crack and fatigue. on the the other side wood are less denser than rock and break into peices once they arr subjected to heavy force. also in ancient time early humans have no knowledge about metallurgy and method to obtain metals. hence rock was the suitable material for tool making. thank you
