Given data : Earth gravitational pull causes an acceleration of 7 m/s² in 2 kg of body.

To find : How much will be the acceleration for a 10 kg mass due to earth gravitational pull at the same place?

Solution : Now, here we use formula of gravitatioal force between two particles,

⟹ F = G*M*m/R²

Where,

  • F = gravitatioal force between two particles
  • G = gravitatioal constant
  • M = mass of the Earth
  • m = mass of particle
  • R = radius if the Earth

Let, m = 2 kg and m' = 10 kg and acceleration of 1.st particle = a and acceleration of 2.cd particle = a'

Now,

⟹ Force = mass * acceleration

⟹ F = m * a

⟹ a = F/m ____( 1 )

⟹ Force = mass * acceleration

⟹ F = m' * a'

⟹ a' = F/m' ____( 2 )

⟹ F = G*M*m/R²

⟹ F/m = G*M/R² ____( 3 )

Similarly,

⟹ F = G*M*m'/R²

⟹ F/m' = G*M/R² ____( 4 )

Now from eq. ( 3 ) & eq. ( 4 )

⟹ F/m = F/m'

Similarly from eq. ( 1 ) & eq. ( 2 )

⟹ a = a'

Answer : Here, we know that, the acceleration due to gravity does not vary with the change in the mass of the object as it is a dimensionless quantity representing the amount of matter in a particle or object.

Hence, here we know that acceleration of 1.st particle is equal to acceleration of 2.cd particle so, acceleration of 10 kg particle is 7 m/s².
