EARTH IS A BLUE PLANET BUT WHY ARE WE NOT ABLE TO USE ITS WATER PROPERLY?

The earth is called the 'blue planet' because more than 71 per cent of its surface is covered with water. But only 1% is available for proper usage as more than half of it are from ocean which could not be used as it is salty water.
