Where are the earthquakes located?

Answer :

Earthquakes can occur at any location at any time. The location for different earthquake may be different.

Epicentre - The point on the Earth's surface where Earthquakes are the strongest is called the Epicentre. For example- In an earthquake that took place in Bhuj, Gujarat; the epicentre was originally 9 km south-southwest of the village of Chobari in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch District of Gujarat, India. This occurred on 26 January 2001.

Earthquakes occur due to various reason. Some of the reasons are

  • Tectonic plate movement - In simple words, tectonic plates are the crusts and uppermost mantle. The movement can cause some energy to release resulting in Earthquakes
  • Volcanic Eruption - The eruption of volcano may also cause tremors such as earthquakes.

Geological Faults, Man-made causes - Nuclear bombing etc.
