The young fold mountains are made up of weak sedimentary rocks which are soft and gets folded easily. Due to plate techtonic movements, earthquakes are felt more intensely in such regions.

This is due to the tectonics plates. Due to the overlapping of tectonics plates with each other occurring of volcanoes are common in the Himalayas.
