Eddie found some data in his internet research that shows a connection between the fruit fly population and the temperature.

The data can be modeled with the exponential function f(x) = 2x, with x representing the number of fruit flies.

Show and explain how he can convert this equation into a logarithmic function when the temperature is 72 degrees.

Given :  Eddie found some data in his internet research that shows a connection between the fruit fly population and the temperature. f(x)  = 2ˣ

To find : convert this equation into a logarithmic function

Solution:

f(x)  = 2ˣ

x = number of fruit flies.

f(x) = temperature

Taking log both Sides

=> log (f (x) )  = log 2ˣ

=>  log (f (x) )  = x log 2

=> x = log (f(x)) / log 2

or x = log₂f(x)

temperature is 72 degrees

=> f(x) = 72°

=> x = log72 / log 2   = 6.17

x = log (f(x)) / log 2   or log₂f(x)
