if a conductor is placed in capacitor then electric field will be 0 inside conducttor and capacitance will decrease

if a dielectric is placed then capacitance of capacitor increases

Explanation=

Case-1 In case of dielectric

When a dielectric placed between the plates of a capacitor then Electric field becomes 1/k times.and hence capacitance increses by k times.

Case-2 In case of conductor

When any conductor placed between the plates of capacitor then the Electric field becomes 0 (as k=infinity) and hence capacitance becomes infinity.

As C2=kC1 (since, k=infinity )

So, Capacitance = infinity
