                                A Threat to The Environment

Marine pollution, a profusive majority of which comes from land based sources, is reaching atrocious levels. An average of 13,000 pieces of plastic litter is said to be found on every square kilometer of the ocean. Marine species are becoming extinct with each passing day due to the ingestion of plastic materials and chemical effluents. Over a million marine animals are killed every year due to debris unloaded into the oceans. According to the United Nations, at least 800 species worldwide are affected by marine debris, and as much as 80 per cent of that litter is plastic.

Single-use plastic such as plastic bottles and bags are causing great danger to our marine animals. According to another recent study, it has been found that single-use plastic bottles are the third most commonly found debris in the oceans.

It's high time we take steps to preserve our marine life. Some measures include:

  • Investing in a refillable water bottle.
  • Carrying a reusable cloth bag.
  • Reducing the generation of plastic waste.
  • Reusing plastic food containers.
  • Recycling plastic bottles.
