The most infamous among those famines was the Bengal Famine of 1941, which was deliberately induced by the then Prime Minister of Britain, Winston Churchill to have a buffer stock for the British soldiers in the Second World War.
- The Railways which is often considered as the British gift to India was actually made to serve the British, for the transportation of their goods and products, and not for benefitting the Indians.
