Dhania is one of the most important characters in Premchand's Godaan.

She faces the anger and beatings of her husband Hori and portrays a traditional rural housewife who never fought for her rights.

She does back breaking hardwork as a field labourer to support her family.

Due to her husband's rigid attitude she never got her due respect in the society.

The suppression on the women in the society is clearly depicted in the novel “Godan’ written by Premchand.

The female characters Dhania, Sona, Rupa and Jhunia of the novel faced severe torture and betrayed by their loved ones.

Dhania was beaten by her husband whom she loved. On the other hand, Jhunia was left by her father and husband along with her unborn child.
