Maharana Pratap Singh was a Rajput king born on 9 May 1540.

Explanation:

His given name was Pratap Singh I, but was popularly called as Maharana Pratap. He was Mewar's 13th king. Mewar is in north-west region of India, in the present Rajasthan.

He defied the Mughal empire unaided by the other Rajput kings, and hence was cherished for his valour. His bravery was so popular that no Mughal expedition targeted Mewar during his period.

Maharana Pratap Singh built a new capital called Chavand during his reign. He expired on 19 January 1597.
