To be precise, current is not a vector quantity. Although current has a specific direction and magnitude, it does not obey the law of vector addition.

Electric Current is a Scalar quantity because we use basic algebraic methods of addition and subtraction to find the total current given at a point.
Also, electric current can not have an independent direction to flow (it depends upon the setup of the electric field)
