Electric Field :
Simply we call an electrical environment on the surrounding space produced by a unit positive charge placed in a particular point.
For testing the electric field at any point , we simply place a unit positive charge (test charge) at that point , if any force F exerted on the test charge thus it proves the existence of electric field.
The strength of electric field is called its intensity.
Properties of Electric field :
1) The electric field of force originate from positive charge and with the termination on negative charge.
2) Two line of force cannot intersect each other at a common point.
3) This lines have tendency to contract in length like stretched elastic string.
4) This lines have tendency to separate from each other in direction perpendicular to their lengths. (repulsion between the like charges).
5) This lines do not pass through the conductors and thus indicating that the electric field lines inside a conductor is zero.
