We have to find out electronic configuration of nitride ion .
Formula of nitride ion is N³⁻
Mean, when nitrogen gains three electrons , it forms nitride ion, N³⁻
∴ number of electrons in N³⁻ ion = 7 + 3 = 10 electrons
E.g., electronic configuration = 1s², 2s², 2p⁶ .it is similar electronic configuration of Ne .
atomic no of Ne = 10
so, number of electrons in Ne =10
so, electronic configuration of Ne = electronic configuration of N³⁻ = 1s²,2s²2p⁶

Hence, option (C) Neon is correct.

Electronic configuration of nitride ion corresponds to the electronic configuration of neon

Explanation:

  • This is because there are three electrons which are present in the nitrogen atom. If nitride is able to gain these 3 electrons then it will be close to the nearest inert gas configuration. Nitrogen and neon are two of the elements which belong to the same period of the periodic table
  • as a result of this the number of orbit present in both of them will be equal. Hence nitride ion has electronic configuration of ie 2,8
