Work done to bring the unit positive test charge from infinite to that point where we have to measure electrostatic potential ,it should be bring without acceleration against electrostatic force.its mathematical formula is W/q.

Answer:

The electrostatic potential at a point in an electric field may be defined as the amount of work done per unit positive test charge in moving it from infinity to that point against the electrostatic force due to the electric field.

Explanation:

Electric potential is the characteristics of electric field. It does not matter, whether a charge is placed in the electric field or not.
