Because electrovalent compounds have strong intermoleculer force and less intermolecular space so,they will need more heat energy to overcome force of attraction.
Thats why it has high melting point.

While in covalent compound is just opposite
less intermolecular force and more intermolecular space so, it require less heat enery to overcome force of attraction.
Thats why it has low melting point.
