From the formula XCl2 we see that one atom of X combines with 2 atoms of Cl this means X has a valency of 2 just like Magnesium. (Remember the formula of magnesium chloride is MgCl2).
Na has valency 1 (NaCl)
Al has valency 3 (AlCl3)
Si has valency 4 (SiCl4)

X would most likely be in group Mg because it forms with group XCl_{2}

Explanation:

As we know that,

The elements belonging to group Na form XCl halide.

The elements belonging to group Mg form XCl_{2}.  halide.

The elements belonging to group Al form XCl_{3} halide.

The elements belonging to group Si form XCl_{4}  halide.

As an element, X forms a chloride with the formula group XCl_{2}  that is solid having a high melting point. Thus, X would most likely be in the group Mg.
