Question:

An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 5 m/min. If the descent starts from 50 m above the ground level, how long will it take to reach – 150 m.

Understanding the problem:

We know that,

The elevator travels 5m/min

The elevator is 50 m above ground level

The elevator has to reach -150m below ground level

Solution:

Total distance = 200 m (distance cannot be neative)

Now we divide it by 5

200 m/5m per min

=40 mins

Answer:

40 mins to reach -150 feet underground
