The equations are:

x+y = 4 ...............(1)

2x3y = 3 ..........(2)

Multiply equation (1) by 2, we get

2x + 2y = 8 ..........(3)

Subtract equation (2) from (3), we get

2x + 2y 2x +3y =8 3

5y = 5

y = 1 ..............(4)

Put equation (4) in equation (3),we get

x + 1 = 4

x = 3

Thus, x = 3 and y = 1
