1.)In this case the medium surrounding the raisins has higher water concentration. so the raisin gains water through a process called osmosis. osmosis is the passage of water from a region of higher water concentration through a semipermiable membrane to a region of lower water concentration. so the raisins will swell up.this type of solution is called hypotonic solution.

2.)In this case, when the raisins are kept in solution of sugar or salt, the raisin will have higher water concentration than the medium. the same process osmosis will take place here. so the cell losses water and shrinks. this type of solutions is called hypertonic solution.
