Solution

If p = 2,

=> p ( 2 ) = (2)² - 2p = q

=> p ( 2 ) = 4 - 2p = q ... ( 1)

If p = 3

=> p ( 3 ) = (3)² - 3p = q

=> p ( 3 ) = 9 - 3p = q. ...... (2)

From the equation 1 and 2, we get

4 - 2p = 9 - 3p ------(1)

4 - 9 = -3p + 2p ----(2)

★ "4" and "-3p" are cancelled

=> ( -5 ) = -p

[ .°. p = 5 ]

Now, for "q",

=> q = 4 - 2p

=> q = 4 - 2*5

[ .°. q = ( -6 ) ]

Now, putting the value of p and q in this written equation.

=> p(x) = x² + px + q

Therefore, p(x) = x² + 5x - 6

Hence, the resultant polynomial is x² + 5x - 6.
