Calculate the empirical formula mass:-

  • You determine this number by finding the mass of HO (1 hydrogen atom and 1 oxygen atom).

  • Divide the gram molecular mass by the empirical formula mass.

  • Divide the gram molecular mass by the empirical formula mass.

  • Multiply each of the subscripts within the empirical formula by the number calculated in Step 2.

Answer ↪↪↪↪↪↪↪↪

1) Determine the% of each element present in a compound from mass of each element present in given mass of compound.

2) The sum of% of all these elements is not 100 , then the difference gives the % of oxygen.

3) Divide all these atomic ratios by lowest atomic ratio and convert it into whole no. by multiplying with suitable no.

4) write down the empirical formula of molecules

5) Calculate empirical formula mass by adding masses of all atoms present in empirical formula.

Hope it helps you dipti.
