Over the years the status of women in India has undergone humongous changes in terms of their position and respect in the society.

In the ancient times their status was equal with that of men but gradually with the onset of the medieval period, a deterioration in their status was observed.

Various social reformers have worked hard over the years to uplift the status of women and confer them equal rights like that of men.

With the women’s movement, there has been betterment in the position of women.

They have acquired voting rights, rights to file for divorce, right to receive equal pay as that of men at workplaces, right to access maternity leave, right to education etc.
