In the story under discussion, the grandmother is an exemplar of a person who believed that emotions should not stand in the way of a person's progress. When the author went up to University and he was given a room of his own, his grandmother accepted her seclusion with resignation because that was the best thing to do for her grandson. She devoted herself to the spinning wheel and reciting her prayers, only taking a break in the afternoon when she would feed the sparrows. When the author decided to go abroad for further studies, he was sure that his grandmother would be upset at their parting because he would be away for five years. But she was not even sentimental, she was engrossed in her prayers and silently kissed his forehead as the last sign of physical contact between them. She did not let her emotions get the better of her and allowed her grandson to forge his career the way he would prefer. If she had intervened in his plans then surely he would not have been able to leave her but it is the mark of her intelligence that she chose to support him in his plans.

Answer:
Emotions shouldn't hamper the progress of the individual.
Explanation:
- The grandma in the anecdote under consideration is an example of a person who thought that one's emotions shouldn't get in the way of their development. When the author moved into his own room at the university, his grandmother resignedly accepted her isolation since she knew it was best for her grandson. With the exception of the afternoon when she fed the sparrows, she devoted herself to spinning and saying her prayers. The author knew his grandma would be sad to see him go because he would be gone for five years when he made the decision to pursue additional education abroad.
- But she wasn't even tearful; she was deeply focused on her prayers and gave him a silent kiss on the forehead as their final act of physical contact. She managed to control her feelings and let her grandson pursue his profession in the way he wanted to. It is a testament to her wisdom that she opted to back him in his intentions because if she had interfered with his preparations, he would not have been able to leave her.
Thus we understand from the story that emotions should never in the way of individual's progress.
