This collection focuses on how the Americas was created and founded. This was displayed in texts of the early settlers as well as the texts we’ve read that serve as this nation’s founding documents.
Look back at the anchor text, “Declaration of Independence,” and other texts you have read in this collection.

Be sure to:
Introduce a precise claim
Support your claim with logical reasons and relevant evidence from the texts.
Acknowledge and address alternate or opposing claims.
Organize the reasons and evidence logically.
Develop your ideas clearly and use your own words, excerpt when quoting directly from the texts.
Identify the passages by title or number when using details or facts directly from the texts.
Use outside research on events in the history of America which support your claim.
Use words, phrases, or clauses to connect your ideas and to clarify the relationships among claims, counterclaims, reasons, and evidence.
Establish and maintain an appropriate style and objective tone
Provide a conclusion that supports the argument presented.
