False

Heat, light, chemical energy, and electrical energy are all examples of energy.  The ability to effect change or perform work is referred to as energy.  Thermodynamics is the study of energy.

According to the first law of thermodynamics, energy cannot be created and cannot be destroyed.   Energy can be converted or changed from one kind to the other it cannot be produced or destroyed.  Switching on a fan, for example, seems to produce energy, but it is a transformation of electrical energy.
