Hi students!
The solar energy can be converted into chemical energy in the form of organic compounds. According to energy transfer law, only 10% of energy can be transferred from one level to another. This level is known as trophic level. The energy that is captured by the autotrophs will not revert back to the sun and on the other hand that energy which is transferred to herbivores doesn’t come back to autotrophs. This process goes on which results in the unidirectional flow of energy.

Answer:
the flow of energy in food chain is unidirectional because the sun is the only source of energy for all ecosystems on earth. then the energy is captured by the autotrophs does not revert back to the sun. therefore,in the food chain the energy moves progressively through various trophic level
