It was a rifle introduced during 1857, and the Enfield rifle played an important role in bringing up the revolt of 1857. the rifle had a greased bullet covering which was made of fats of cows and pigs. that had to be bitten by the mouth off, Hindus considered cows sacred and Muslims considered pigs as taboo. This hurt   their sentiments and they waged a small war
