enlist any four factors responsible for genetic variation
Answers
● mutation
● random mating between organisms
● random fertilization
● crossing over (or recombination) between chromatids of homologous chromosomes during meiosis.
Factors responsible for genetic variation are genetic flow, gene mutations, genetic recombination, and genetic drift.
1. Gene Flow: The transfer of different types of genes amongst the population is called gene flow.
2. Gene Mutations: These are also called point mutations. There will be variation in the chemical structure of the genes, these types of genes are called gene mutations.
3. Genetic recombination: It is defined as the rearrangement of DNA sequences by the method of breaking and rejoining the chromosomes present.
4. Genetic Drift: There is the occurrence of random fluctuations amongst the number of genes of a population. This is referred to as genetic drift.
