At the tubal pole the ovary is attached to the suspensory ligament, a fold of peritoneum which forms a mesentery for the ovary and contains the ovarian vessels. This suspensory ligament is often called the infundibulopelvic ligament. The hilus is the base of the ovary; at this point the ovarian blood vessels enter.
