Succinate is the end product of glyoxysomal metabolism of fatty acid and is not metabolized further in this organelle. The succinate is believed to diffuse out and it is converted into oxaloacetate in the mitochondria. In the cytoplasm, glucose is produced by gluconeogenesis.
