Equal weights of mercury and iodine are allowed to react completely to form a
mixture of mercurous and mercuric iodide leaving none of the reactants. Calculate
the ratio by weight of Hg2I2 and HgI2 formed.

Let the wt. of HgI2 formed be x and HgI2 formed be y.

In the case of Hg2I2,Hg=402656x,I2=254656x

In the case of Hg2I2,Hg=201455y,I2=254455y

So,402656x+201455y=254656x+254455y

From this equation, x/y can be calculated
